Announcing our first ‘INPUT: a Music Producer’s Conference’ of 2014, happening on the 22nd February and featuring presentations from:
TOUCH SENSITIVE (Van She, Future Classic)
OSCAR KEY SUNG (Oscar + Martin, Ghostpoet, Melo-x)
THOMAS McALISTER (Alba, Canyons)
+ guest industry speaker:
MICHAEL KUCYK (Modular Records A&R honcho and publishing guru at Mushroom)
The day will be hosted by ADAM MAGGS (Ableton Certified Trainer).
These limited-capacity events connect the audience with Australia’s leading producers and music industry operators – as they open up on music production techniques, industry insights and career advice in both presentations and audience Q&As. It’s also a great place to meet like-minded creative types.
This time around we’ve got Michael Di Francesco (Touch Sensitive) and Oscar Key Sung sharing their production secrets, Thomas McAlister (Canyons / Alba) showing sound design techniques and Michael Kucyk (Modular A&R / Mushroom Publishing) answering sticky industry questions such as “what exactly does a music publisher do, and why/when do I need one?”.
Check out this video of Chris Emerson’s (What So Not) recent INPUT presentation on building a music production career – it will give you an idea of what to expect on the day.
Tickets ($35) at the Liveschool website or Resident Advisor.

TOUCH SENSITIVE
Solo artist, Producer, DJ, amazing bassist, keyboardist with the band Van She, and all-round synthesizer fiend – Michael Di Francesco (aka Touch Sensitive) has as many projects as he does talents – he’s even found time to co-write courses with Liveschool on Music Theory and Sound Design. As a notable Australian musician Michael has worked with Jamie Lidell, Snoop Dogg, Beastie Boys, Sneaky Sound System, Ladyhawke, Cassette Kids, Utah Saints, PNAU… and opened for Daft Punk on their now-legendary pyramid tour. 2013 saw more achievements for Michael, with a Beatport #1, over a million soundcloud plays on his song ‘Pizza Guy’ and extensive international touring. Michael is one of the most humble and generous humans we know and it will be a true honour to have him candidly share some of his masterful tips and techniques in production and songwriting.
OSCAR KEY SUNG
The Melbourne based artist has been producing since 2010, making minimal R&B in duo Oscar + Martin and producing glitchy hip-hop beats with Brothers Hand Mirror. In 2013 though things have been blowing up – collaborating with Charles Murdoch, producing for GhostPoet & Melo-X, playing the festival circuit – but it’s his new solo releases that have really caught our ears (and everyone elses – he’s getting glowing reviews from Pitchfork, Gilles Peterson and many more). At INPUT he’ll be talking through his unique production techniques in detail – one not to be missed.
THOMAS McALISTER
Long-time touring member of Canyons (Modular Records) and is the man behind their considerable Ableton Live setup, some of the live instrumentation, and their huge video projections running via Ableton / Max For Live. His latest project Alba have already signed with Astral People’s new wax imprint Plastic World, clocked up remixes for Snake Hips and Elizabeth Rose, been remixed by Jimmy Edgar and Rick Wade, and played support for Four Tet and Mount Kimbie – all in under a year. Having grown up amongst synthesizers in his Father’s repair workshop, Thomas is a sound design expert and will be sharing tonnes of his favourite sound design and synthesis techniques in his presentation.
MICHAEL KUCYK (Industry Guest)
Michael will be drawing on his hefty experience and knowledge in the music industry (after eight years in publishing at Mushroom, he now heads Modular Records’ A&R department), to shine light on questions such as “what exactly does a music publisher do, and why do I need one?”. Michael is also responsible for the seminal radio show ‘Noise in My Head’ (a long running favourite on Melbourne’s RRR radio with a star studded history – Prins thomas, Tim Sweeney, etc) and has released many game changing psychedelic and indie records on his Nervous Jerk label.
