One of the first big DJs to emerge back in full force after the pandemic was our very own What So Not. While the rest of the world suffered through endless lockdowns, What So Not was in Western Australia tearing 15,000 person festivals apart with his ever morphing arsenal of hard hitting futuristic tunes.

The evolution keeps on progressing steadily with his most recent collab taking an unexpected turn towards straight up House Music. The most surprising thing is that the artist in question for the collaboration isn’t who you might expect for a left turn into house territory. What So Not has teamed up with Australia’s own DMA’S and the results speak for themselves.

You might be forgiven for being skeptical about a merging of one of Australia’s biggest rock bands and our most full on future bass charger – but doubt not. The end product is one that sits firmly in the history of great rock / dance crossovers. Channeling equal parts vintage Happy Mondays and current day Bicep, the new track The Change pairs high octane breakbeats with signature DMA’s vocals for a track that breaks new ground for both artists.

In an era with less opportunities to film in person video clips, What So Not has doubled down – creating a fully virtual world with the help of director Jordan Chappell. The video for The Change features our heroes the DMA’s and What So Not (along with some raver friends) being pursued by evil cyborgs through a post apocalyptic alien wasteland.

On social media What So Not has flagged The Change as the start of a “new era”. What this means we can only guess, but if there’s more evil 3D cyborgs – we are all in!
