Arm your digital confetti cannons and fire away for Zac Chodos aka. Flaneur, who has taken out the latest round of the Liveschool Co Producer Sprint Competition.
Our judging panel of music industry legends Kristy Lee Peters (KLP, Triple J), Adam Booth (Sony ATV publishing) and Anthony Garvin (Ableton Certified Trainer, Liveschool) selected Zac’s slow-burning house jam Swoon as this round’s winner.
The judging was tight, with runners up Daniel Curtis (Aurascension) and Romain Machefer (Saisei) and following closely behind.
For the major prize, Zac won a mastering session for the tune with Brendan Zacharias at Cirrus Audio.
Here’s ‘Swoon’ in all its mastered glory as well as the tunes from our runners up:
The Co-Producer Sprint is a producer challenge for the Liveschool community, where students and graduates have one week to create an original track, using only sounds recorded on-site at Liveschool.
Zac said these limitations inspired some creative decisions in unfamiliar territories, “the sample pack allowed me to explore combinations of sounds that I would have otherwise shied away from and challenged me to piece them together in a complementary way.“
The Sample Bank for this edition
A crew of keen on-course Create + Destroy and Produce Music students recorded this round’s samples in a full day studio lock-in at Liveschool’s studios. The bank featured a wide range of material – basses and leads made with our Korg MS-20 and Novation Bass Station, textures from a slew of guitar stomp-boxes, lush piano and keyboard chords, and some wildly processed live instruments and hand percussion. Check out some photos from the recording day.
