It almost feels like summer wouldn’t be complete without inflatable pools, BBQs and the sounds of our national broadcaster pumping the Hottest 100 through every bluetooth speaker in the country.

The Hottest 100 is a big deal in the industry in Australia due to the nature of Triple J’s national reach: the Hottest 100 can act as a guide going forward for the next year as to who will be pulling crowds, who will be in demand for collaborations and who will be locking in a big record deal.

Local artists are equally well represented as the worlds biggest major label acts, and with no shortage of massive wins for Liveschool grads in the last 12 months, seeing three of our Liveschool community placing in the top 100 is a huge confirmation of their hard work and achievements.

In 2022 Liveschool had 25 nominees and 3 of them placed!

Our star studded Hottest 100 Playlist features everything from K-rap super group 1300 and underground house sensation Logic 1000 through to heavy-hitting productions for Masked Wolf and Chillinit…

And huge props to these 3 who ranked in the Top 100 !!

Genesis Owusu – Gold Chains

Genesis Owusu is one of the breakout stars of 2021. He was already having a massive year, but when he appeared on Barack Obama’s best of 2021 playlist he was catapulted into yet another echelon. One of our Liveschool fam was heavily involved in the making of his breakthrough record Smiling With No Teeth. Touch Sensitive aka Michael DiFrancesco appears on bass duties across the release bringing his funk sensibilities into play on Gold Chains which appears at #75 on this years countdown.

Liveschool Produce Music 2022 Applications Open

Vera Blue – Temper
Coming in at #72, Vera Blue’s Temper cements her position as Hottest 100 mainstay. The last few years have been massive for Vera, with her 2017 record blasting her into the mainstream and her 2019 collab with Flume coming in at #2 – it’s a no brainer to say we will be seeing her again for the 2022 countdown.

Middle Kids – Stacking Chairs
Middle Kids placing #38 in the Hottest 100 follows mere months after taking out the ARIA Award for Best Album in the Rock category. While Rock and Roll might not be the first genre that springs to mind when you think of Liveschool, band members Harry Day and Miles Elkington both have the same pro dedication the the craft and joined us to further deepen their well-rounded careers.

And the winner is…

The Wiggles doing a live cover version of Tame Impala. Which is a solid reminder that none of us should be taking things too seriously. The Wiggles are literally one of the most successful music acts on the planet so maybe this should be less surprising than it is. But the fact that the country voted for it, is possibly the most Australian possible outcome of any of the Hottest 100 in its 30+ year history…

And as always, keep your eyes on our Liveschool graduates as no doubt someone that we feature here on the blog will be climbing the ranks of next years countdown…. see you at number 1!
